Need opinions on new tattoo idea?

Q: I am looking into getting stars tattooed on my foot (2 small, 3 medium and 1 larger). These stars are to represent different family in my life and I want them to be connected. I was originally thinking about using vines to connect them and then I was suggested just getting swirls shaded in the background to complete them. I was hoping to get a few opinions on these ideas or see if anyone has any other suggestions to connect this different "family tree" idea. Also, please do not comment if you are just going to make anti-tattoo comments. I already have two and I did not post here (under tattoos) to hear negative tattoo remarks. Thanks!! :)

What are the positives and the negatives for getting my tattoo?

Q: I'm going to get a tattoo on Tuesday. It's going to be on the back of my neck. It's the symbol for dream in Japanese and under it moon and stars. It's going to be my first tattoo. I was wondering if you could give me any advice. My mom tried to scare me by saying they could paralyze me. Is that true? How should I take care of it. What questions should I ask? Please I need advise from people who have been here. How do I know if they are using a clean needle?

A: positives: - its an exciting new experience - its a beautiful piece of art on your body - its unique to you (usually) - it looks good (in my opinion) - the pain is worth it negatives: - it is permanent (tattoo removal is expensive, painful and not always effective) - you get judged - it can be painful during the tattoo procedure (i got my foot tattoo a few days ago and it hurt like a betch :P ) - it can be more difficult to get jobs (though if you have your hair down, the neck is easy to hide) - it can fade/become damaged over time - you have to be very careful in the sun You are not going to get paralized! The needle does not go deep enough to do that! aftercare: - keep the bandage on for about an hour after you get home (i advise going straight home after) and do not keep it on longer than a few hours. - DO NOT cover the tattoo again afterwards. Your tattoo needs to breathe in order to heal. - after taking the bandage off, wash the tattoo with luke warm water and a non-scented soap (some people say Dial is good, but I think it is too harsh) make sure your hands are clean before you wash it! - continue to wash it 3-5 times a day for at least the first 7-10 days, go for 2 weeks if you can. - PAT (dont scrub!) dry after and apply A+D ointment for the first 3 days - after 3 days switch to a non-scented, alcohol-free moisturizer like Lubriderm. Apply it so it is moisturized but not greasy feeling. - your tattoo will flake and peel after a few days, DO NOT PICK IT! this will make your tattoo blotchy. - it will also scab, do not pick them either. They will become soggy when you wash your tattoo and eventually just come off by themselves. - for the first 30 days do not go swimming, tanning or soak your tattoo. This can cause fading. When you do go in the sun use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 35, preferably higher. to know if the needle is sterilized, ask them if they use autoclaves (it is the most effective sterile way to clean them) if you have any more questions, dont hesitate to ask me :D I hope this helps!
